Update for Tuesday, April 1, 2025 - Wise County Messenger
MAN HURT WHEN TRAIN STRIKES TRUCK — A train struck a pickup at a crossing on Farm Road 718 in Newark, with the driver escaping the wreckage moments before the truck was engulfed in flames Monday. The collision involving a Union Pacific train was reported around 1:30 p.m. on a private drive in the 100 block of FM 718, across the street from the H&H Construction site. Newark Fire Chief Jerry Taylor said the adult male patient escaped through the windshield after his vehicle came to a rest. The fire was contained near the tree line located just off the tracks. The patient was outside of the vehicle and the truck was fully involved in flames when first arriving units made it to the scene, said Newark Fire Captain Rusty Peace. Wise County EMS Chief Randall Preuninger said the patient suffered serious injuries. He was flown by PHI Air Medical to John Peter Smith hospital in Fort Worth. Taylor said the contents of the train were not damaged, adding that there were no active concerns regarding hazardous materials.
