DUFERCO (DITH) at loss ... and for sale
A loss of over 31 million dollars. This is the 2024 operating result of the Dufeco SA of Lugano, the historic company active in the world trade in the steel. A loss that emerges from the accounted accounting budgets recently in Luxembourg, where the group's parent company is located, the Dufeterco International Trading Holding (Dith). The consolidated balance of the latter is also negative - less than $ 5.8 million -, but above all weigh it is the bad result of the Ticino subsidiary who already in 2023 had recorded losses for 17.5 million dollars. A situation in clear contrast with what happened only until a few years ago. In 2022 Dufeco Sa had made $ 56.2 million of net profits, while the entire Dith group had reached 263 million dollars. That year, also due to the Russian invasion of Ukraine, the prices and volatility of the steel had increased considerably, allowing companies active in the trading to obtain large operating margins.

Social preliminary agreement at Forges de Clabecq
(time) - Negotiations between the liquidators of the bankrupt steel producer Forges de Clabecq, the trade unions, the Ministry for Labor and Employment and the Walloon Region have resulted in a preliminary agreement. The unions will submit the preliminary agreement to the staff of the bankrupt factory in Tubize in a referendum. Furthermore, a spokesperson for the Swiss-Italian steel trader Duferco in Lugano confirmed that an acquisition of an integrated steel producer such as Clabecq fits in with the company's strategy. Negotiations in the joint committee between curators, trade unions, the Ministry for Labor and Employment and the Walloon Region yesterday resulted in a preliminary agreement on the social plan. The text states that the preliminary agreement must be considered as a whole and can only be implemented if it is implemented in its entirety and the staff no longer hinders the curators in the execution of their mandate.
