An arrest warrant has been issued for the CEO of Barrick Gold in Mali.
Authorities in Mali have issued an arrest warrant for the CEO of Canadian mining company Barrick Gold, Mark Bristow. Reuters reports this with reference to documents in its possession. Mr Bristow is accused of money laundering and financial misconduct. In total, Mali is demanding that Barrick pay about $500 million in “previously unpaid taxes,” as well as increase the share of the Malian government and local investors in the Lulo Guntoko project from 20% to 35%. This is one of the largest gold mining complexes in the world, located in western Mali. It is run by Barrick and the Malian government.
