The coloring market and pigments: study, trends, rankings
The turnover of French manufacturing of dyes and pigments amounted to € 1.43 billion in 2022 according to INSEE. This sector has few players in France, only 41 establishments being identified by ACOSS in 2023. These manufacturers develop and produce chemical substances for the colorization of various products (paintings, textiles, plastics, etc.) from raw materials such as titanium, copper or zinc. The pigments are generally insoluble and come in the form of dry powder. The dyes are soluble and provide more fluidity to the products they are dying. The manufacture of these items requires costly technicity. The activity is concentrated in the hands of a few large foreign groups, especially American such as Tronox and Vibrantz Technologies (ex-Ferro).
