IN BRIEF: Murata Manufacturing to set up US-based corporate VC arm
Murata Manufacturing Co Ltd - Japan-based electronic modules and components manufacturer - Says it will establish a new corporate venture capital arm in the US in April called Wonderstone Ventures. Notes the CVC's objective is investing in startups which Murata will use to drive future innovation. Plans to invest USD50 million through Wonderstone over the next five years in technologies that may lead to groundbreaking changes in "next-generation communication and 6G, optics/semiconductors, bioelectronics, the environment, robotics, and space". Murata says these have been identified as preparation areas for the long term. Adds that while Wonderstone will be US-based, it will pursue investment-based exploratory activities globally.
