Remondis awarded landfill contract in Australia
German waste management company Remondis will continue to provide landfill services to the Australian Capital Territory for at least another five years, having secured a new contract with the territory government. According to Remondis, the contract covers general operations and landfill management services at Mugga Lane Resource Management Centre and Mugga Lane Quarry at Symonston, which are the territory's main waste disposal sites. Remondis has operated both facilities since acquiring Thiess in 2012. The company also recently received approval to build a new organic waste processing facility in Queensland.

Leighton sells waste unit for A$218 million
SYDNEY--Leighton Holdings Ltd. LEI.AU said Monday it has sold its Thiess waste management business to Germany's Remondis AG & Co. KG for 218 million Australian dollars (US$222.4 million). The sale price represents an earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortization multiple of six times and earnings before interest and tax multiple of 10 times, which is in line with recent deals in the sector, Leighton said.
