First terminal for liquefied natural gas in the Netherlands
Today, during a festive meeting, the Minister of Economic Affairs, Maria van der Hoeven, gave the official go-ahead for the construction of the first receiving terminal for liquefied natural gas (Liquefied Natural Gas, or LNG) on the Maasvlakte in Rotterdam. Gate terminal, an initiative of N.V. Nederlandse Gasunie (Gasunie) and Koninklijke Vopak N.V. (Vopak), will initially be able to transmit 9 billion cubic meters (bcm) of natural gas per year and will consist of three storage tanks and a jetty.
