Work Resumes On 64km Road Project In Ghana |
Ghana's Ministry of Roads and Highways has announced the resumption of construction work on the 64km Ashaiman roundabout-Akosombo junction road project after a year's hiatus. Germany's Inzag was awarded a 30-month engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract for the project in September 2020 and commenced work on site in September 2022. However, the project stalled in July 2023 due to the government's debt exchange programme with the IMF. The project involves the design and construction of a dual carriageway from Ashaiman roundabout in Tema to Akosombo junction south of the Adomi bridge crossing the Volta River and includes two flyovers and interchanges, 11 pedestrian footbridges, three river bridges, drainage structures and walkways. According to the ministry, the contractor has resumed work and is currently undertaking earthworks between Asutsuare and Akuse junctions to widen the road into a dual carriageway, with additional work fronts opening up, including site clearing from Doryumu towards
